Gray, Alice. Christmas Stories from the Heart. Multnomah, 1999. -- The best legends and stories retold by popular Christian authors such as Max Lucado, Billy Graham, etc. ***
Harris, Joshua. I Kissed Dating Goodbye. Multnomah Publishers, 1997. -- A new attitude toward romance and relationships. Proposes the "courtship" rather than "dating" view of relationships. Highly recommended ****

Lucado, Max. Just Like Jesus. Word, 1999. Be an imitator of Christ. More wonderful and highly readable information from Max Lucado. ****
McDowell, Josh & Hostetler, Bob. Dont Check Your Brains at the Door.' Word Publishing, 1992. -- A Christian Apologetics Book for Teens. *** You can find out more about Josh McDowell and his other books at his webpage -- Josh McDowell Ministries. Tada, Joni Eareckson. Heaven Your Real Home. Zondervan, 1995. -- What heaven will be like, what we'll do and who we'll see. ***** Learn more about Joni, who became a paraplegic as a teenager, at her ministry webpage -- JAF Ministries. She is an amazing person and has written many books.
Walsh, Sheila. Life is Tough but God is Faithful (How to see God's love in difficult times). Thomas Nelson, 1999. -- Wonderful devotional book, full of insights, by someone whose life is admittedly not perfect, but who continues on in her faith. ***** The Sheila Walsh homepage contains links to her other books and her albums.
Speare, Elizabeth George. The Bronze Bow. Houghton Mifflin, 1961. -- Newberry winner about the intrigue within the group known as the Zealots and three adolescents who are involved with them at the time of Christ. ****
Hunt, Angela Elwell. The Silver Sword. Waterbrook Press, 1997.-- Story of a woman who takes the part of a male knight to fight in the 15th century wars in Bohemia. Fun story, especially for girls. ****
Lawhead, Stephen. Taliesin. Crossway Books, 1987. --Part one of a (to date) five part series (Pendragon series) on the ancestry and life of King Arthur. Very involving. Creative explanations for parts of the myth. *****
Lawhead, Stephen. He has two other series -- the Song of Albion and the Dragon King Trilogy. Both are excellent. For more see "Meet Stephen Lawhead" and the Stephen Lawhead homepage.
Rivers, Francine. Redeeming Love. -- Story of Hosea from the Bible retold with a 19th century California setting. Great story of repentance and forgiveness. ****
Rivers, Francine. She has written wonderful books. You can view them all at the Francine Rivers homepage. I especially recommend her Mark of the Lion trilogy.
The Crucible. Dir. Nicholas Hytner. Perf. Winona Ryder, Joan Allen, Daniel Day-Lewis . 20th Century Fox, 1996. -- Wonderful adaptation of the Arthur Miller play about the Salem witch trials. Not written from a Christian point of view, but good for Christians to see. PG-13****
The Prince of Egypt. Dir. Brenda Chapman. Perf. Val Kilmer, Sandra Bullock, Ralph Fiennes. Dreamworks SKG, 1998. -- Stunningly animated story of Moses. Well done, even if a few "liberties" were taken. *****
Bernall, Misty. She Said "Yes." The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall. First Plough Publishing, 1999. -- Story of one girl who was murdered in the massacre at Columbine. She had been struggling for several years, but an experience with Christ turned her into a bold witness. ****
Gray, Daphne. Yes, You Can Heather! Zondervan, 1995. -- Inspirational story of Heather Whitestone the only disabled Miss America as told by her mother.****
Pelzer, Dave. A Child Called "It." Health Communications, 1993. -- Horrendous autobiographical account of a child whose mother abused him and who was not helped by his father, brothers or other authorities. Wonderful story of the power of the human will, even in small children. Difficult to read. -- ****
Parker, Steve. Seashore. Alfred A. Knopf, 1989. -- Eyewitness book. Great photos. Good text. ****
Walpole, Brenda. Distance. Gareth Stevens, 1995. -- Measure Up with Science book. Nice coverage and good photographs. ***
Edwards, Gene. The Divine Romance. Christian Books Publishing, 1984. -- Story of creation, redemption and eternity from a new point of view -- that of a romance. Wonderful book but for older students. *****
Edwards, Gene. He has many good books, especially "The Tale of Three Kings." His books are published by his own publishing company -- Seedsowers.
Jeffrey, Grant R. and Hunt, Angela. Flee the Darkness. Word, 1998. -- Daniel Prentice, the owner of one of world's largest software companies has a plan that will avery a Y2K catastrophe, but the world must cooperate but can he trust Romulus, the mysterious head of the European Community? ***
LaHaye, Tim and Jenkins, Jerry B. Soul Harvest. Tyndale, 1998. -- Book number four in the "Left Behind" series. As the middle of the Tribulation approaches will Rayford and Buck be able to survive the wrath of the Anti-Christ? A majorly popular series. There is also a Left Behind for Kids series. Left Behind has its own website.****
Lawhead, Stephen. The Paradise War. Lion Publishing, 1991. -- Part one in the Song of Albion trilogy. Be drawn into the exciting Celtic Otherworld and it's struggle between Light and Dark. *****
Lewis, C. S. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Harper Collins, 1994. -- Book 5 in the "Chronicles of Narnia." Lucy and Edmund find the place where dreams come true****
Lewis, C. S. The official C.S. Lewis webpage describes all of his wonderful books. One of the best Christian authors. My favorite webpage is "Into the Wardrobe" which is maintained by Douglas Gresham, his step-son. Check it out.
MacDonald, George. Phantastes. William B. Eerdmans, 1981. -- Anodos seeks for the fairy queen and the spirit of the earth. Is it real, has he died or is it all a dream?****
MacDonald, George. At the Back of the North Wind. Tor Books, 1998. -- A poor stable boy, Diamond is mysteriously visited by the beautiful North Wind. A good way to approach the topic of death. ***
MacDonald, George. He wrote many thoughtful books. C.S. Lewis admired him and was inspired by him. The best webpage is "The Golden Key."
Morris, Gilbert. Flight of the Eagles. Moody Press, 1994. -- The first in the Seven Sleepers series. 14 year old Josh and his friends, must be united in their obedience to Goel if they are to save the world of the future. ***
Myers, Bill. The Spell. Tyndale House, 1995. -- Book 3 in the "Forbidden Doors" series of books which deal with the occult from a Christian point of view. This book looks into black magic. ***
Veggietales. See the webpage for all the information on their videos, etc. Sounds juvenile, but I laugh and have watched many teens laugh at their antics. ****
Lewis, Beverly. The Shunning. Bethany House, 1997. -- The first in a trilogy about a young woman raised in the Amish community, who finds out that she was adopted. She has to decide between the community she was raised in and the outside world. ***
Olson, Bruce. Bruchko. Creation House, 1989. -- What happens when a 19 year old Bruce Olson goes into the jungle to evangelize South American Indians? Great missions story. ****
Grisham, John. The Testament. Doubleday, 1999. -- Story of a lawyer, just out of re-hab for the fourth time and about to "out for the count" who is assigned by his firm to find a missionary in the depths of the Bolivian jungle, who has just inherited one of the world's great fortunes. Wonderful story about what is and is not valuable and where true hope lies. Many twists. ****
Peretti, Frank. TheVisitation. Word Publishing, 1999. -- Nothing ever happens in the sleepy town of Antioch, Washington until a young man claiming to be the Messiah and performing miracles arrives. People are flocking to him but Travis Jordan means to find out if he is really from God. ***
Hunt, Angela. The Truth Teller. Bethany House Publishers, 1999.-- Lara uses her deceased husband's sperm to be impregnated. But is it really her husband's child she carries or is it a genetically enhanced "superman"? ****
King, Martin Luther and King, Coretta Scott. I Have a Dream. Scholastic, 1997. -- Beautiful picture book with the full text of this famous speech. *****
Rivers, Francine. The Atonement Child. Tyndale, 1997. -- A young college woman is raped and impregnated. Her beliefs forbid abortion, but even others who previously agreed with her are urging her to have one. Good treatment that covers many angles. ****
Covey, Sean. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. Franklin Covey Co., 1998. -- Son of the author of the other "Highly Effective" books lays it out for teens. Well organized with fun facts and graphics. Not a Christian book, but would be great for young Christians to read. ****
Bennett, William J. Book of Virtues. Simon and Schuster, 1993. -- Anthology of classic short stories, sayings and poems which point up the value of morals and character. *****
Finley, Martha. Elsie Dinsmore. AYER Co. Publishers, 1998. -- The life of a young girl who depends on the Lord, despite her treatment by others. ****
Hawthorne, Nathaniel. The Scarlet Letter. International Collectors Library, 1975. -- Classic story of sin, hypocrisy and redemption. *****
Les Miserables. Dir. Bille August. Perf. Liam Neeson, Claire Danes, Geoffrey Rush, Uma Thurman. Columbia, 1998. -- Classic story or Jean Valjean, sin and redemption. PG-13 ****
Lewis, C.S. The Screwtape Letters. Touchstone, 1996. -- The instructions of the demon Screwtape to his nephew, the demon Wormwood. A Christian classic on the true workings of evil. *****
Lewis, C.S. Till We Have Faces. Harcourt Brace, 1985. -- A retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche from the point of view of Psyche's plain older sister Orual. A fascinating book. *****
MacDonald, George. Lilith. William B. Eerdmans, 1981. -- Mr. Vane inherits a house and enters another world where he learns of the true nature of evil personified in the lovely and alluring Lilith. *****
Untermeyer, Louis. The Golden Treasury of Poetry. Golden Press, 1966. -- Wonderful anthology covering many classics from short rhymes to longer story poems.*****
