Bibliography

The National Science Teachers Association does a fine annual list: Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children for 1999. The list covers materials up to grade 8.

Space Science

Website: Windows to the Universe. A wide variety of information of earth and space sciences including entires on all the planets in the solar system.

Website:  25th Anniversary of Apollo 11. A collection of photos, short blurbs and sound files created by the National Space Science Data Center in 1994 to commemorate the Apollo 11 flight.

 • Website:  Apollo 11 Lunar Surface Journal. Hours and hours of recorded conversations between the astronauts and Mission Control published by  astronomer and historian Eric Jones. In addition to the transcripts and RealAudio recordings,  Jones has added astronaut commentary, garnered through personal interviews.

Website:  Contact Light. This web site offers a nostalgic and personal look back at man's first voyages to the Moon, not from the perspective of a participant, nor from that of a historian, but instead from a personal perspective as a young teenager.

The Biology Place is a website for educators in high school and college with resources, articles, links, projects and a host of other materials. The site costs $10 for six months but a 7-day free trial is available.

Standards for Teachers

Document (w7c.pdf) "Science Content Standards for California Public Schools: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve," Published by the California State Department of Education, this documents outlines what students should know at every grade level about various topics in science. Good for building collections of materials students will be needing.
