Looking to the Future:
Building Personalized Information Spaces

If you were to design a personalized information space for a youngster, a teen, an adult, or a professional, what components would you have on the desktop?

User-Control of desktop?

Numerous home page sites are now allowing the user to redesign the interface: example:http://www.excite.com

While other companies still see that they can design multipurpose websites for your school providing a template for you to fill in the content. See http://www.wwwrrr.net/atmyschool.shtml Notice they did not leave a space for the library!

Resarch Guidance?

Check out NoodleTools at http://www.noodletools.com/

Controlled Internet Access (Selected not filtered information)

Look at inet library (http://www.inetlibrary.com)

Multimedia control?

Check out one of several companies that build multimedia access systems (c13a.pdf)

Push and Pull Technology?

Allow teachers and library media specialists plus the student to feed certain information at certain times to the user when the computer is booted?
